AWS Thailand Region: a new chapter for digital transformation
Understand the AWS Thailand Region and the decisions to review before choosing it for your workloads.
What launched in January 2025
AWS opened the Asia Pacific (Thailand) Region on 7 January 2025. Its Region code is ap-southeast-7, and it has three Availability Zones.

Choose the Region around your workloads
The Thailand Region adds an option for hosting workloads and data locally. Suitability still depends on users, required services, system dependencies and how data moves through the application.
Proximity to users can help latency, but test the actual application. Choosing a Region alone does not ensure every part of a system keeps its data in that country.
Review the architecture before moving
This Region requires opt-in. Check current service and feature availability, and design availability and recovery deliberately. Having three Availability Zones does not automatically make an application resilient.
- Confirm the AWS services and features your workload needs.
- Test latency and connections to dependent systems.
- Review data flows, backup locations and recovery procedures.
- Plan migration stages and a practical rollback approach.
